Thinking of getting laser resurfacing done?
Then this’ll be of interest to you! Find out what should you consider before getting this skin procedure done? How about the pros and cons of laser resurfacing?
Scroll down to find out about all that and more:
So first things first, what is laser resurfacing and how does it work?
Laser resurfacing is basically a skin procedure that involves using laser to remove upper layers of your skin. Thereby improving the appearance of your skin or treating certain minor facial flaws. Depending on depth of penetration, it could either be ablative or non-ablative.
As with other resurfacing treatments, the outer layers of your damaged skin are stripped away. And when your skin heals by forming new cells, a tighter, smoother, younger-looking skin results!

You might want to consider other types of skin treatments if you have any of the following:
It’s best to consult with your medical professional to find out more conclusively whether laser resurfacing is right for you before having the procedure done.
What are the types of laser resurfacing and what are the differences?
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Laser Resurfacing
This has been used to treat different skin issues. Examples include wrinkles, scars, warts, enlarged oil glands on the nose, etc
The newest version of CO2 laser resurfacing (AKA fractionated CO2) uses very short pulsed light energy or continuous light beams that are delivered in a scanning pattern to remove thin layers of you skin with minimal heat damage. Recovery post treatment could take up to 2 weeks.
Erbium Laser Resurfacing
This is designed to remove surface-level and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on your face, hands, neck, or chest. One of the benefits of erbium laser resurfacing is minimal burning of surrounding tissue. This laser causes fewer side effects (like swelling, bruising, and redness) compared to CO2 laser resurfacing. Hence you’d also have a faster recovery time with this type of laser resurfacing.
If you have a darker skin tone, erbium laser resurfacing may work better for you.
What are the possible complications from laser resurfacing?
What should you do before and post laser treatment?
Pre-treatment (How to prepare before laser treatment?)
At this point in time, you’d want to keep your skin as healthy and hydrated while keeping any skin irritation to a bare minimum. Do keep your skin protected and hydrated with Medik8 White Balance Duo (broad spectrum SPF during the day and skin repair during the night). For additional hydration, you could also add in Hydr8 B5 (lightweight water based hydrator with hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5).
If you have sensitive skin, you might want to start using Medik8 Red Alert 2 weeks before your skin treatment procedure. This is to strengthen your capillary walls and skin barrier so as to reduce chances and severity of side effects post treatment.
Post treatment (How to protect and maximise results after laser treatment?)
Your skin would be especially sensitive post treatment. So it’s highly recommended to switch to a gentle cleanser to prevent additional skin irritation. You could consider Medik8 gentleCleanse – very gentle cleanser that’s suitable for the most sensitive of skins. It is FREE from any sulphates, soap, alcohol or parabens.
As for skin repair, there’s Ultimate Recovery. It’s an advanced repair cream that’s perfect for post treatment. This will help to reduce any redness, irritation or skin discomfort and at the same time also speeds up your skin’s healing process.
Also, do continue using Red Alert and White Balance Duo as before. This to strengthen, rebuild your skin’s barrier and to protect your skin against any sun damage. Even with broad spectrum sun protection, it’s advisable for you to minimise sun exposure as much as possible.
Medik8 products are designed with green chemistry techniques that is kind to your skin and to the environment. At the same time, they contain the active ingredients in innovative delivery methods that have been scientifically proven to deliver you results!
