Still don’t have the skin you want?
Is your daily cleanse and moisturise routine not enough? Truth is some of your daily habits could be taking a toll on your skin.
What are they? Read on to find out 6 reasons why you don’t have the skin you want.
1. You're not removing you makeup..
You might be diligently cleansing your face every night. Chances are though that your makeup removal is lacking.
It could be that you’re not using enough of your makeup remover. When you’re removing your makeup, start by pressing a towelette or cotton pad onto your skin for a few moments for everything to loosen up. After that, use back and forth motions all over, from your hairline to your neck. Keep going until your towelette or cotton pad do not show any signs of residues.
Even though you may not see it, make up can clog your pores and affect the absorption of active ingredients later.
2. You're off your exfoliation game
When it comes to exfoliation, most people either exfoliate too much, or not enough! If you over exfoliate, it wears down your skin’s protective barrier. This makes it harder for your skin to lock in the necessary moisture.
On the other hand, if you rarely get around to exfoliating, you are letting dead skin cells build up. This can lead to a dull complexion and impact the effectiveness of products that you use.
Depending on your skin type, you should be exfoliating between one and three times a week. The oilier your skin, the more exfoliation you’d need.
3. Your diet leaves much to be desired
If you regularly binge on fried food, sweet treats and processed snacks, it won’t be surprising if you don’t have flawless skin. What you eat not only affects your health, it also affects your skin condition.
One thing that you can definitely benefit from is by cutting down on sugar. Sugar breaks down your skin’s collagen and elastin fibres through a process called glycation. This eventually results in premature ageing (i.e. wrinkles and saggy skin).
4. Regular hot shower or bath
A steaming hot shower may be relaxing after a long day. But exposing your skin to hot water everyday can actually dry your skin out. Instead opt for lukewarm water or apply moisturiser after shower while your skin is still moist.
5. Sedentary lifestyle that involves a lot of sitting
This should come as no surprise, a couple of hours of exercise can do wonders for your skin and complexion. When you exercise, your blood flow improves, giving your skin a healthy glow. Exercising also helps your body release toxins via sweat. That’s all well and good, only thing is to make sure your face is cleansed before and after workout. So as to prevent any acnes.
6. You're not using sun protection
You’ve heard it countless times before.. Sunscreen is a must in preventing all sorts of skin damage. Look for broad spectrum sunscreen. What this means is that it’ll protect your skin against both UVA and UVB. For more information regarding SPFs and all things sun protection, click HERE.
